Cheryl Arkison Bio
Back when I started quilting it was practically unheard of for a 23 year old to do so, but there I was. Now, over 20 years later I haven’t stopped. In addition to my own creative work, I love to teach, write books, spread the gospel of improv, and design quilts. Every now and then I make a garment, my Grade 8 Home Ec Teacher would be proud.
When it comes to making, I am happy to make what inspires. I am well known for my use of bold colour and the quiet whispers of low volume fabrics but I will use anything in between as well. Use what you love, make what makes you happy. Just get your butt in the seat and sew.
In the past decade I’ve published three books: Sunday Morning Quilts (co-authored with Amanda Jean Nyberg), A Month of Sundays, and You Inspire Me to Quilt. I’ve also travelled the world to teach quilting. In between I am raising 3 active kids and running a business with my husband. Sometimes, I sleep.

Maureen has been a Quiltworx Certified Instructor since 2009 and a BeColourful Authorized Teacher since 2018. She emphasizes the fusion of dimensional embroidery and traditional needlework. As a pattern designer, Uschi is inspired by nature, the play of colour and layered textures using different mediums.
In this one day 6 hour workshop each person will work with one of Uschi’s kits. She will guide us through the project starting with tracing the design on freezer paper, stitching it to the background, and learning a range of hand embroidery stitches. After getting a good start in the workshop, people can finish their project at home. All the hand-dyed wool, thread and special needles will be included in the kit. People should bring a pencil, sharp scissors, and pins. No sewing machine is required for this workshop. Quilt Design 101 by Lorna Shapiro
This two-day workshop is for quilters who have created quilts from patterns and are moving on to designing their own quilts. Theory and technique are integrated throughout the workshop, allowing participants to: 1) gain a theoretical framework from which to evaluate and improve upon their quilt designs, 2) experience a design process that supports the evolution and refining of a quilt design, and 3) learn new sewing techniques that allow a broader range of elements to be incorporated in their quilt designs.
On day one participants will develop a strong design concept incorporating their chosen fabric selection. Between days one and two of the workshop, participants will refine their design, assemble the complete set of fabric that may be used in the quilt, and possibly start creating some elements of the final design. On day two of the workshop participants will progress from refined design on paper to the final design cut and positioned on their design wall, with some portion of the quilt actually assembled.
